Ren is the development of the RenVM network that connects Ethereum to other blockchains. Currently, there are three tokens operating in the Ren ecosystem: renBTC, renBCH and renZEC. RenBTC (RENBTC) is an ERC-20 token pegged to Bitcoin. But unlike other bitcoin-backed tokens, renBTC is not a synthetic token and does not rely on any liquidity mechanisms to guarantee a peg to the value of BTC. Instead, it is a direct supply peg, which means there is always enough BTC in reserve to cover circulating supply of renBTC. Any asset generated by RenVM is collateralized. This means that the investor has 1 renBTC at his disposal, then he can exchange it for 1 BTC at any time.
