Zcash (ZEC) is a decentralised privacy-oriented altcoin which was introduced in 2016 by its founder Zooko Wilcox-O’Hearn. Built on the Zerocoin protocol, this open-source coin allows additional transparency of operations. ZEC transactions implement a so-called Zero-Knowledge Succinct Non-Interactive Argument of Knowledge, or zk-SNARKs, which makes them fully transparent and protected. The network is maintained secured without revealing the actors or amounts involved due to this feature. Transaction data is securely encrypted without the need to disclose spend-parties. Moreover, users can use zk-SNARKs technology to ensure that the operation was open and transparent.
