Kraken Alternatives: When You Just Need a Swap (2026)

Kraken Alternatives: When You Just Need a Swap on the Godex blog
Contents

Updated October 29, 2026. We checked every fact about other services against their own websites and Terms in October 2026. This article is published by Godex, which is one of the options below.

Kraken is a full exchange, and it expects you to verify your identity before you trade. That's fine if you want bank deposits, staking or futures. It's more than you need if all you want is to turn ETH into BTC, or a stablecoin into Monero. For that job, a no-account swap service such as Godex, StealthEX, ChangeHero or Exolix will do it wallet to wallet. Uniswap works if your coins already sit in your own wallet, and Bisq if you want bitcoin for fiat, peer to peer.

In short: stay with Kraken for anything that involves a bank or a balance. Use a swap service when the task is "this coin in, that coin out".

When Kraken is the right tool, and when it isn't

Kraken has been around since 2011 and calls itself "the command center for active traders". It lists 600+ assets, along with stocks, futures, margin and staking, and it takes bank transfers in currencies like EUR and GBP. If that's what you use it for, nothing on this page replaces it.

The mismatch shows up in smaller tasks. Say you hold LTC in a hardware wallet and want XMR, or you received USDT and want BTC. Routing that through Kraken means an account, verification, a deposit, a trade and a withdrawal. A swap service skips the first two and folds the rest into a single step.

What Kraken asks for before you trade

Kraken's help article "Verification explained", updated October 6, 2026, puts it plainly: "Once you are verified, you can buy and sell crypto, deposit cash and crypto, margin trade, access our OTC desk, and much more."

There are two personal levels now. The older Starter and Intermediate names have been retired.

Level Monthly cash limits Includes
Verified Under $100,000 Crypto trading, staking, margin and OTC (where eligible)
Verified with higher limits Above $100,000 The same, at higher limits; "the highest verification level available"

To get there, you need to be 18 or over and live somewhere Kraken serves. You provide your name, date of birth, phone, address, occupation and an ID, plus proof of address or a face photo in some countries. Kraken compares it to opening a bank account. Its Terms of Service (Section 1, last updated October 28, 2026) let it make whatever inquiries it considers necessary to verify who you are.

None of that is a complaint. It's how an exchange that holds your money and talks to banks has to work.

Six ways to swap without a Kraken account

If you want a quote and a fixed rate in one go: Godex

Godex has run instant swaps since 2017. You don't open an account. You pick a pair, say where the coins should land and send the deposit. There are 960+ coins to choose from, and you can take a floating rate or lock a fixed one. A fixed quote holds as long as your deposit is confirmed within 30 minutes. There's no upper limit on volume either. Most swaps finish 5–30 minutes after the deposit arrives.

What Godex doesn't do: bank deposits, stocks, an order book or staking. It also isn't the cheapest quote on every pair, because the fixed rate carries a spread. Two clauses are worth reading in advance. First, its AML/KYC Policy is risk-based, so a transaction it assesses as high-risk can be checked, refused or postponed. Second, if the market moves 3% or more before the deposit lands, the Terms allow extra time or a refund instead of the fixed amount. Godex also doesn't serve some jurisdictions listed in that policy.

A typical Kraken-to-wallet case looks like ETH to BTC: pick the pair, fix the rate, send.

If you want the quote to come from several venues: ChangeHero

ChangeHero, founded in 2017, says it pulls rates from 10+ centralized and decentralized exchanges and that swaps finish in about five minutes on average. It lists 350+ assets for swaps and needs no account. Its fixed rate locks for 15 minutes, and it states there's "no hard limit on the maximum swap amount". Its Terms (March 2026) let it apply AML/KYC checks to specific transactions; its FAQ describes the policy as risk-based.

If Kraken doesn't list your coin: StealthEX

Kraken's 600+ is a curated list. StealthEX says it covers 2,000+ coins and tokens, also with no account. It offers a fixed rate for an exact amount and says it has no upper limits. Its Terms were rewritten in July 2026 and describe "a risk-based approach to verification". The FAQ says that's needed in rare cases, such as a blacklisted wallet.

If your deposit will be slow: Exolix

Exolix, running since 2018 with 500+ cryptocurrencies, guarantees a fixed rate for 60 minutes from when you create the order, per its Terms. That's the longest window here. Its About page says there's no maximum limit, though the widget does show limits per pair. Its July 2026 AML/KYC Policy describes a risk-based compliance review.

If your coins are already in your own wallet: Uniswap

Uniswap is a decentralized exchange interface. Its Terms say you need a non-custodial wallet to use it, and that Uniswap Labs has no custody of what's in that wallet. You sign each trade yourself and pay network fees, and if something goes wrong there's no support desk to undo it. It suits people who already manage their own keys on Ethereum or another supported network.

If you used Kraken to buy bitcoin with euros: Bisq

Bisq is open-source desktop software for trading bitcoin with other people for fiat or other coins. Its homepage says "No registration required", and its FAQ says it "requires no registration or KYC". Funds sit in 2-of-2 multisig deposits during a trade. It's slower: you wait for an offer and handle the payment with the other person. Some fiat methods also have trade limits for new accounts.

Each service's own published figures, checked October 2026. They change, so look again before you swap.

A Godex swap, start to finish

The screenshots below are from the live Godex form in October 2026. The example pair is LTC to XMR; any pair works the same way.

Godex swap form with LTC and XMR selected and an estimated amount

You start by choosing what you send and what you want back. The estimate refreshes as you type.

Godex order form with the Fixed rate option switched on

The order form opens on floating rate. Switch to fixed if you want the amount locked; the note under the toggle explains the 30-minute condition. The form also names the network to send on. If you're withdrawing from Kraken, pick that same network there.

Godex receiving-address field, optional email and Exchange button

Paste your receiving address. Email is optional. Clicking Exchange means accepting Godex's Terms, Privacy Policy and AML/KYC Policy. Godex then shows a one-time deposit address. Once your coins arrive, the order moves through Confirmation and Exchanging to Completed.

There's a longer, screen-by-screen version in our step-by-step Godex guide.

Before you send anything

Three things catch people out:

  • Networks. Kraken offers several withdrawal networks for many coins. The swap form names one, and those two have to match.
  • Timing. An exchange withdrawal isn't instant. If you lock a fixed rate first, make sure the deposit can arrive inside the window.
  • Tags. XRP, XLM and a few others need a memo or tag. Leave it out and the deposit can go missing.

Send a small amount first if the sum matters. And no account doesn't mean no rules: every service above, Godex included, has an AML or restriction clause. Your tax position where you live doesn't change either.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use Kraken without verification?

Not for its main services. Kraken's "Verification explained" article says verification is what lets you buy and sell crypto, deposit cash and crypto, trade on margin and use the OTC desk. Verifying means ID and personal details, plus proof of address or a face photo in some countries.

What happened to Kraken's Starter and Intermediate levels?

Kraken's current help article no longer uses them. Personal accounts are now "Verified", with cash limits under $100,000 a month, or "Verified with higher limits" above that. Business accounts are separate. Check Kraken's article for the latest details.

Does Kraken have its own self-custody wallet?

Yes. Kraken Wallet is a free app that Kraken describes as built for self custody: "Your keys. Your crypto." It supports several chains, swaps and DeFi, and it's separate from a Kraken exchange account.

Is a swap service cheaper than trading on Kraken?

Often not on liquid pairs, where Kraken's order book is tight. Godex's fixed rate includes a spread that pays for the 30-minute lock and the no-account flow. Compare what actually lands in your wallet, counting Kraken's withdrawal fee.
