MANA coin and SAND are both tokens launched on the Ethereum blockchain. MANA is a token used for virtual transactions. SAND is a crypto-backed token used to buy in-game assets in the play-to-earn gaming space. To make an accurate Decentraland vs the Sandbox comparison, we need to first look at each project separately.
MANA is a virtual-reality token. It lets users create personal experiences, monetize applications, and use content in the Metaverse.
Decentraland is a virtual world where you buy land you can navigate, monetize, or build on. Users can also earn income by creating and selling on NFT marketplaces, similar to OpenSea.
It launched in 2017 with an initial coin offering that gathered over $26 million. Decentraland first launched its beta version in 2019 and released the complete version in 2020. Users have joined the platform for various activities such as interactive games, 3D imagery, and virtual interactions.
There’s no limit to what the MANA community can achieve in the future. The questions are: what reception will it get compared to The Sandbox, and which project will win in the Decentraland versus The Sandbox battle.
Gaming enthusiasts can use digital assets in a variety of ways on platforms like The Sandbox. SAND is a Sandbox token launched in 2011 by Pixowl, and it's a virtual gaming world created on the blockchain. It uses two powerful elements to build a vibrant and flourishing community — The (DAO) Decentralized Autonomous Organizations and (NFT) Non-Fungible Tokens.
Arthur Madrid and Sebastien Borget, co-founders of The Sandbox as well as CEO and COO of Pixowl, are the forces behind the Sandbox platform. They founded Pixowl in 2011 and have worked on notable projects together. They seem to have more tricks up their sleeves, and we can't wait to unveil them.
To discuss which one is preferable, MANA or SAND project, let's look at the distinctions between them:
The Sandbox has an active team, and they've been in the business for over ten years. For Decentraland, the backers have stepped aside and only act as consultants.
Users need an account to view Sandbox, but this is not the case for Decentraland. You can view Decentraland on a web browser without an account. Considering the ease of access, Decentraland is more attractive.
Creators looking for a medium to display their artistry can look at Decentraland. The DAO feature means that Mana Coin Holders also controls governance.
The question of preference in terms of MANA vs SAND networks tilts more on the side of which strengths appeal to you as the user.
The value of the SAND coin increased from $0.4 to $0.8 from August 2020 to October 2021 — slowly but steadily. Then followed a sudden surge to $3 and later $8, which later started to retract.
As for MANA, its price had a similar history, only it started suddenly growing in February 2021 – from $0.1 to $0.9 in a month. After going over $1, the coin’s value dropped back to $0.5, only to reach a new all-time high in November — $5.9. However, at the end of 2021, it traded at around $3.
You can head to price-tracking websites for crypto assets to stay updated with price changes.
We have examined MANA vs SAND and the companies behind them. Whatever choice you make will be a matter of personal preference. Pricing, use case, governance are all factors to consider. Make sure you weigh the pros and cons of Decentraland vs The Sandbox before going in.
The Metaverse is ripe for the taking. If you want to stick with Decentraland, there are strong merits to doing so. Still, Sandbox might be your best chance for diving into emerging metaverses. In any case, you can always conduct a MANA to SAND exchange or vice versa if you change your mind about either of the coins.
Look at the use case for both coins, pricing, and governance. Consider factors like transaction speed, capitalization, the blockchain they're issued, and market liquidity.
The Ethereum blockchain issues both coins. The market cap for SAND is currently at almost $3 billion while MANA is at almost $4 billion.
Several factors are responsible, including demand, supply, coin availability, and even prices of other tokens. Any factor that tilts in favor of either coin handles its pricing and perceived value. In this case, that’s Decentraland.
Now, since both belong to the ETH blockchain (one of the biggest, priciest, and most congested), that limits how much these coins can trade. If there were a third coin with similar features on a different network, it might outperform MANA and SAND.
Both projects could build on additional blockchains later (SOL, MATIC, BSC), which leads to more demand and coin price.
According to DigitalCoin, MANA's future price could average $4.13 in 2022 and rise to $4.89 in 2023 and $6.2 in 2025. SAND could average $8.06 in 2023 and climb to an average of $10.79 in 2025. These predictions are not foolproof, but they show that SAND could be more profitable in the long run.
